Kylie's story

How long have you been at Guild Group and what do you do?
I am a Client Partnership Executive for GuildSuper, I work from the Brisbane office servicing our QLD customers. I’ve been at Guild for 8 months and I love doing what I do.

What was the moment you knew you’d made the right decision to work at Guild?
I think it was the first time we got together as a team. A few of us had started the same time I did, we started within a week of each other. Then in late October 2019 we flew down to Melbourne to get together and that was when I knew that there were good dynamics within our team. So, two weeks after I started, I knew I’d made the right choice.

What makes Guild different from the other places you’ve worked?
I think the intimacy, that’s probably the best way to describe it. I don’t want to put it down to size, because although we are smaller, compared to the other Super Funds I’ve worked for, we have a significant impact on our members and employers. We’re lucky to have a great Growth team within GuildSuper that has a Client Partnership Executives in Sydney, Victoria, Western Australia and Queensland, which means we have true national representation, that other super funds might not.  We’re also very agile which is a benefit of the intimacy we have as a business.

How do you stay connected to your team when you don’t necessarily work in the same location as the rest of the team?
Well, I’m fortunate in the instance that this isn’t my first role where I have been a remote worker, so I have built up the skills over several roles. But, it’s the little things like using video as much as possible so it’s not just ‘another voice on the phone’. I also check in regularly with the other person in my team that’s also in Queensland, so we make sure we’re connected and up to date. Even little things like sharing articles and information that’s useful to our team we do a lot, we all have a true team mindset and the same goals we need to achieve, so if we can help each other to achieve them then we’re going to do that.

What kind of things does GuildSuper as a business do to keep you in the loop and connected?
My team stay connected through Microsoft Teams. I love Teams, it makes it so easy to jump in and have a conversation and get to a resolution quickly. I also really like our company intranet, Gigi. It helps me stay up to date on information around the group but is also easy to navigate for helpful resources I need to find quickly. We stay connected with frequent team catch ups and are always talking and sharing ideas and information.

We’ve also just started using Asana to manage a lot of our work within the business including for our events and sponsorship. Which I personally love, because I am the kind of person that loves data and good workflow management, so that’s been a great way to keep us all up to date and on track.

Tell me something that your team has achieved during your time at Guild?
Since we launched SUPERSUPER, we wanted to do more for our members and employers, so we’ve been combining the benefits you can get from SUPERSUPER with a pilot we’ve been running through employers to their staff on Financial wellness. Financial wellness has been somewhat of a gap for our employers so it’s been great to start running that pilot and see what extra benefits they can then provide to their team. I’m lucky to have come in at a point where GuildSuper is really evolving, there’s a lot of programs of work happening that are going to deliver a lot of value to us as the GuildSuper team, but mainly to our members, which is so exciting.

What are the things at Guild Group that matter to you the most?
I think one thing would be the respect of the capabilities that we hold. That we’re the right fit for the role and we’re trusted to do our jobs and do them well. We’re supported from our leaders to do what we need to do to deliver and they always make sure that we have the right tools and equipment to do what we need to do.

What hobbies and interests do you have outside of work?
I make cakes, I love to do the novelty style cakes. I am 100% YouTube trained. It all started once I had kids, starting with their birthday cakes and then recently I’ve graduated to wedding cakes. The first I did was my sister’s. Which at the last minute had to undergo a complete transformation as her vision just was not coming together in the October heat in Queensland.

I also love to cook, in fact I entered Master Chef one year, but I was also 8 months pregnant, so the timing wasn’t really going to work out!

Do you have any fun facts about you?
I am one of 12 but an only child. Lots of people tend to get confused over that one! I am an only child to my parents but have a large family of half and stepbrothers and sisters.

Favourite place to travel?
Anywhere with good food and water, I love beaches and lakes. I’ve never been to Italy, but I’d love to go. My favourite place that I have travelled would be Portugal. In 2019, I took my three kids to Tasmania and it was a combination of beautiful lakes and snow. It was the first time my son had ever been on a plane and ever seen snow. My biggest thing with the kids is about creating memories rather than having ‘things’.

Is there anything that you’ve accomplished outside of work that you’re particularly proud of?
I still have a 13 and 14-year-old teenage daughters who are alive! Haha. To be honest, I’m just genuinely pleased with what I’ve accomplished in my life. Everyone has their own trials and tribulations throughout life, I’ve had my fair share, but I’m just grateful to be as happy as I am and where I’m at in my life.
